In 1993, inspired by the many exceptional individuals and organizations serving and protecting Long Island's diverse communities, Horace and Amy Hagedorn established the Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund at the New York Community Trust.
Since its inception, the Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund has provided support to more than 400 organizations on Long Island and nationwide. Approximately 90% of the funds disbursed have gone to support Long Island-based nonprofits throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.
When Horace passed away in January 2005, he left additional philanthropic resources to be given away through a newly formed foundation under the leadership of Amy Hagedorn. The Hagedorn Foundation was incorporated in November 2005 as a private family foundation that seeks to support and promote social equity on Long Island. The Foundation is based in Port Washington, New York.

“Find a need and fill it.”
These words embody the business and philanthropic philosophy that my husband, Horace Hagedorn, and I have lived by. After years of working to solidify the success of his Miracle-Gro plant food, Horace believed his responsibility was to help others grow as well. He was fond of saying “You can’t keep taking from the earth without giving back.”
